Interesting - putting a value on the contribution of FOSS developers... TL;DL -> $100s of billions contributed to the economy. https://www.zdnet.com/video/open-source-developers-contribute-hundreds-of-billions-of-dollars-to-the-economy/
@sean Haha indeed
@sean In a good way though, right?
@datatitian Is this post a joke? At least some people are being misled... this is a reversed playback of the original video, which showed a sheet of ice breaking off and drifting away. You can notice that the shadows would indicate the sun rising from the west and setting in the east (over Lake Michigan) if the video were unedited, but in fact it is edited.

@lightweight Well put. When people think of the threats from Big Tech, they think of Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple. The one causing the most inefficiencies and problems is often just an afterthought; we are so used to it as the infrastructure and that it isn't questioned much anymore.
@tomharris Just today Microsoft Word told me once again to change "don't" to "do not" and I found it so patronizing, had to uninstall.

Paraphrasing: "I hate that Twitter can decide who gets banned, I wish people made different social platforms where there is no central power like that".
Yes, I live in a fediverse bubble. But surely, with just a tiny bit of research, they could have found the fediverse, right? At least, Mastodon?
Now they leave it hanging as all other article: "Twitter sucks, but what can we do? No good alternatives"

Putting out a request: do you work for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries? There’s a rare CD-ROM I’m looking for for research purposes, and it appears the only copy held in North America is in that library. Any help is appreciated. https://search.library.wisc.edu/catalog/9910761664802121
