A phrase we thankfully haven't heard in months: "I thought Thunderbird was dead!"
---
Hi, I'm Jason. In May 2022 I was blessed to be offered a dream job: running #Thunderbird comms and creating content for our newsletters & blog.

Goal #1: remove any doubts about Thunderbird's future in the public eye. I'm thrilled to say it feels like we accomplished that!

And our team LOVES the engagement & community spirit here. It's a personal daily highlight for me.

Please keep your feedback coming 💙

This is a fantastic development! We should also thank forward-looking distros like @elementary and its AppCenter for Everyone initiative for paving the way.

Now, will Snap follow this move? Because I'd much rather support an ecosystem that in turn has the mechanisms in place to support the developers.

We’re excited to announce major performance and stability improvements to Proton Mail Bridge.

It's now faster and easier to use your encrypted #ProtonMail inbox with your favorite email client, such as @outlook, @mozthunderbird, #AppleMail.

Starting today, Proton Mail Bridge is using a new IMAP library, Gluon, which vastly improves the performance & stability.

Give it a try: proton.me/mail/bridge. If you're already using Bridge, you'll receive the update over the next few weeks.

Regarding the Flatpak issue in Ubuntu flavors, we want to reassure you that these are only the official flavors and that we have no intention of adopting Snap as a replacement for Flatpak or remove Flatpak at all. Nothing will change.

After Flatpak, another major project has undergone a visual refresh -- Flathub. It gets a little more than a coat of fresh paint very soon. Thank you everyone involved!

removing Flatpak is the last straw. It's a continuing trend in the wrong direction. I'm going to research switching my company's whole fleet to or when the upgrades start happening. Such a shame! Ubuntu has been good for so long. Also made Nvidia drivers SO easy to install. Any tips for Nvidia installation on Fedora appreciated!

Oh what a terrible decision.
Canonical will prevent Ubuntu flavors to come with Flatpak preinstalled, as they want to push snaps.

Kind of a Microsoft-like move here. Really bad.

Make everything USB-C. Don't care if it's a little confusing what type of C you have. Just make them all C.

There is a CIA booth at SXSW, just in case you're wondering how that event is now.

This is dumb. Getting very tired of a lot of Ubuntu's decisions lately. I'm going to be giving Fedora KDE another shot before too long now. Great writeup by @omgubuntu though!

Got a minute?

I'd love to know how many of you use #Flatpak apps on Ubuntu (or any Ubuntu flavors).

As #Linux users, or even as #Windows users, we often hear a lot of preconceived notions, like "Linux is faster", or "Windows has better battery life".

Well, I decided to quantify all of it in a complete benchmark between Windows 11 and #ubuntu

CPU and GPU benchmarks, disk speeds, thermals, internet speeds, gaming benchmarks, battery life, I looked at everything on the same device, and the conclusions were... surprising:

Here's the chart that really matters.

Average Mastodon posts per month are going up.

Here's a comparison:

* Sept 2022: ~460M posts
* Dec 2022: ~573M posts
* Feb 2022 (so far): ~678M posts

This is a dramatic upswing in posts, and indicates that activity on Mastodon is continuing to increase.

The chart tells the story. The jump is dramatic.

There is a bug involving BPM changes and audio regions that occurs during saving (a bug report dialog appears) but we don't know the steps to reproduce it.
It seems to occur when you import an audio file then play with BPM changes and move the region around.

Will send $10 via PayPal or Monero to the first person that reports the exact steps to reproduce it from an empty project (after we reproduce it locally)
