@briannawu and to be fair even a few of them are starting to publically say they don't know how this is going to turn out either.

All the more reason to get out and Vote!!

What a beautiful, necessary book.

Thank you, Dr. Sami Schalk for writing #BlackDisabilityPolitics, which explores how Black people have long engaged with disability as a political issue deeply tied to race and racism.

You can read it online: read.dukeupress.edu/books/book

hey US friends. please take the time to vote today. as someone who used to skip voting and believed that I could “stay out of politics” — I was wrong

there’s an active campaign underway to strip rights away from people we care about. voting helps us protect them. please vote 💜

⚠️ IMPORTANT ⚠️ If you're going to be an #ElectionWorker tomorrow, first of all-- thank you!

Secondly, make sure to read this important whistleblower guide: whistleblower.org/wp-content/u

@heath@mastodon.cloud can't argue with that logic she is basically the perfect cat. Now her brother on the other hand...

@dansup @pixelfed actually you made it happen and we thanks you for all the hard work you've put in on it Dan

Maybe enough #Linux geeks around here to get a good answer to this:

It’s time to consider a new laptop. I’ve been using exclusively ThinkPads running Debian for nearly 20yr now, but I’m wondering if there are other options.

Is ThinkPad still the best bet? What about Juno?

@aurynn how big has Cloud Island gotten? Is there a way to tell where most of the data transfer is coming from?

There are so many awesome people and creators in the #fediverse now it's making my head spin. This has gone _way_ beyond programming/FLOSS/data nerds.

It feels like one huge party where people making cool shit are just bumping into each other and giving each other high-fives. I love love love it. 😍

Hey, so, we've hit 1,028,362 monthly active users across the network today. 1,124 new Mastodon servers since Oct 27, and 489,003 new users. That's pretty cool.

@RadioSilence many of the instances intimidation tie back to the conspiracy theory floating around Truth Social that got started a few months ago and recently got ratcheted up to 11. So there's not really any reason to be concerned that conspiracy theories might pop up. The best way to ensure that the law is working is to enforce it.

One lesson from moving between social networks is that we should maybe stop using phrases that are part of a brand. "Tweeting" or for that matter "Tooting". How about "writing" or something else non-brand related?

@jaredwhite that's great that she was interested enough to sit down with you and go thru it all!

It's always so strange to me to hear about how voting works on the west coast compared to the east coast (generalizing I know). Here we basically never have ballot measures and there's hardly any culture of vote by mail. It's mostly just waiting around on election day until you make it to the polls.

Why are so many of you following me all of a sudden

@matthew_d_green knowledge is power, you gotta be careful with that 😉

Mastodon is really having a moment in mainstream news coverage. CNN, BBC, TIME, etc.

The influx of users will continue at an alarming rate. Remember to be welcoming, and kind, and positive, and helpful.

This isn't just an opportunity to improve the idea of social media, it's an opportunity to shine a wonderful light on #opensource.

@ridt one thing I have been wondering about people's aversion to 's decentralization of online spaces is how it relates to the fact that for the last 20 years we've been mostly trained on centralized services.

We actually know how decentralized services work and as this points out we use them very frequently with no issues. The biggest break with Mastodon is shifting our mental models around social contact (he says as if that's some small barrier)
