In case you're wondering why #RaspberryPi is making the rounds:
The makers of the computer that can be made into a near-infinite# of unassuming devices, has hired a man whose expertise is hiding #Surveillance gear inside unassuming devices.
That in itself is understandable (he's a maker), but so is user concern.
Instead of addressing that concern, RasPi started blocking & mocking anybody who questioned the new hire.
...
IOW: RasPi is now Mastodon's first-ever real "Person of the Week"

Does anybody else think that a private corporation managing the communications infrastructure (and holding the cryptological keys) for systems that will be transmitting above-top-secret data is a terrible, TERRIBLE idea? 🤔
I'm hosting a webinar about trust and safety on the fediverse this Thursday, Dec 8th at 12pm Eastern. It's an introduction to the state of content moderation and community safety here.
I hope it will be useful to people at civil society organizations who have perhaps heard about Mastodon and the fediverse and would like to know more about where there are gaps in funding and services, and places where orgs could potentially help augment what's already happening.

Folks, this is bad news. Very, very bad. Hackers and/or malicious insiders have leaked the platform certificates of several vendors. These are used to sign system apps on Android builds, including the "android" app itself. These certs are being used to sign malicious Android apps!

I wish fewer people would quote Wealth of Nations and more people would read The Theory of Moral Sentiments.

hello again fedifriends, it's me, Sundog, back with more signposts for new folk to find fun and function on the fediverse.
as you've no doubt noticed, there are numerous frontend clients that can interact with the various ActivityPub servers in use.
one of the smaller client projects is called brutaldon, and it's a lightweight web-based client for Mastodon and compatible servers. you can use it by going to https://brutaldon.org/ and authenticating against the server you're using.
I am the accidental maintainer of brutaldon as the original author decided to move on from the fediverse and was going to take it offline, which would have made me sad as it's excellent.
however, I'm not really a python web dev, so it's been mostly gathering dust.
there's a repo at https://gitlab.com/brutaldon/brutaldon if you're a #python person who's looking for a project to contribute to, and I'll be happy to review and merge any PRs submitted by the community! and who knows, maybe you'll fall in love with the project and want to take the reins - hit me up and let's chat about it! I really just want to see it keep existing and I am not a good active steward for it at this point in my busy life.
thanks for reading and I hope some of you enjoy #brutaldon!
It’s #FollowFriday so I hope folks utilize the hashtag to find my account here!
Give me a boost! Maybe if I can show some of the big accounts on Twitter that it’s possible to grow sizably and quickly here, too, they’ll migrate over!
New firmware for your @PINE64 #PinePhone and #PinePhonePro modem, now with (beta) call recording support!
As always, you can get it from #lvfs and GitHub(https://github.com/the-modem-distro/pinephone_modem_sdk/releases/tag/0.7.1)
Have fun!
