@luke

Delta chat is, by far, the easiest solution for this problem.
It build on email protocol, that means all the infrastructure is rock solid.

@mandraker @luke email meta data is pretty bad in terms of privacy. Not sure how XMPP meta data compares to email ito meta data. @thomaslewis do you know?
@billiam @mandraker @luke

I’ll pull some archived stanzas later and post them (sanitized, of course).
@billiam @luke @mandraker

Here’s the basic example message stanza from the IETF standard (users can opt to add more data if they want by enabling features in their client):

<message
from='juliet@example.com/balcony'
id='ktx72v49'
to='romeo@example.net'
type='chat'
xml:lang='en'>
<body>Art thou not Romeo, and a Montague?</body>
</message>
@thomaslewis @luke @mandraker so spooks can still send who is chatting with whom (unless they are on the same XMPP server), and the meta data can't be encrypted?

from a meta data perspective this seems as bad as email
@billiam @luke @mandraker
All that’s there is your JID. No IPs, etc. So, if you don’t use your real info, there’s no way to know who the person behind the JID really is.

I believe they’re working on improving OMEMO to encrypt the whole stanza. I’d have to look at the XEP to find out, though.
@billiam @luke @mandraker
I forgot: there’s also potentially a resource name, so be sure to not name your sessions with anything identifiable (most clients use the client name or a semi-random identifier).
@thomaslewis @luke @mandraker
>No IPs
Okay, that's a fair bit better
>they’re working on improving OMEMO to encrypt the whole stanza
that's good
@mandraker@social.librem.one i hear of delta on TV it seems people are dying from it though. not very good
