Whenever I'm tempted to think that a new thing seems too complicated, I read newspaper articles about pizza from the early 1950s.

Learned that public libraries are launching their own local music streaming services and have been low-key obsessed ever since. My report is now up on Vice's Motherboard! vice.com/en/article/5d34px/lib

I have encountered more image descriptions on Mastodon in 24 hours than I have in Twitter in a couple of years. Seriously. I'm not exaggerating.
As a blind person, this means a lot to me. If you read this and you describe your images, thank you so, so, so much on behalf of all of us. If you don't, now you know you'll be helping random Internet strangers make sense of your posts by typing in a few more words than usual.

Received the and so far feels good with the exception of the touchpad.

The firmware update utility for that was sadly not included in the repos by default so had to build, and use an external keyboard while going through the steps. Definitely not for the novice user.

Once done, it works so much better.

I hate what computers are now, and especially hate what Apple computers are now. Here are comics that were "purchased" but can't be read, and a screen to read them on which works but can't be used,

because Amazon decided to buy the comic vendor and break their app,

and Apple insists we buy a new screen every few years or they will make apps (like unbroken Comixology) break via aggressive SDK depreciation. The new screen isn't better. They just make you pay for it because they can.

20 years ago, if you ate dinner under the unblinking eye of a CCTV, it was because you were housed in a supermax prison. Today, it's because you were unwise enough to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for "home automation" from Google, Apple, Amazon or another "luxury surveillance" vendor.

It was 1939 and this technology created 3D sculptures. It took decades later to duplicate this lost technology.

Specifically the Romans measured things in "libra" (which is why the symbol for Libra is a scale), but people under the Romans who used Proto-Germanic heard the phrase "libra pondo" (Latin for "the weight measured in libra") and just started being like "haha oh yeah this thing is X pondo heavy". So the word "pound" is derived from the Latin word for "weight" ("pondus") but we use "lb" because that's how the Romans abbreviated libra, the actual unit of measurement they used.

Tip #7
Edit your PDFs directly in #libreoffice writer.
When exporting a text document to PDF, tick the "Hybrid PDF" option. This will create a PDF that also contains the .odt file inside. This allows you to either open the PDF in any document viewer as a PDF or in a text editor as an .odt file without any formatting loss. Try it for yourself and never lose the source file to a PDF!

what means something to me is when people actually jump in and say something when the bad thing is happening, instead of remaining silent to avoid personal blowback and then expressing solidarity behind closed doors

Before you marry a person, you should first make them use a computer with a slow Internet connection to see who they really are.
