On being yourself

@shouko built-in integration with a nextcloud server that they also box up so you can easily host it yourself.

Continuous updates on devices that LOS has long ago abandoned.

Stripping out the extra Google checks, DNS usage & interactions from LOS and other applications.

For the past 18 months or so, I've had the privilege of participating in a pilot of Rocket.Chat by GC - Government Canada. Their IT folk are taking their Digital Nations ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_ ) ambitions seriously... Interestingly, their thousands of users *prefer* Rocket.Chat over Slack & MSFT Teams.

This is actually valuable advice, and I reckon applies to Twitter as well.

Covid

@martijnbraam it looks like it might be a conspiracy to sell expensive cables that never get used beyond their most basic function

@joshmillard sounds like fun & games until some idiot cuts you off.

@Gina those stands aren't very ergonomic. The keyboard angle makes them unusable for any duration. The frugal option is a ream of printing paper to elevate, and maybe a cheap external keyboard to ease the typing.

Given that we're in a time where toilet paper people are going "oh my goodness I have to buy up all the toilet paper before SOMEONE ELSE buys it!" I think it's time we had a full and frank discussion about bidets, bum sprayers and other more effective ways of keeping yourself clean.

The truth is that of all the most common methods around to clean your bum, toilet paper is the most expensive, uncomfortable, unhygienic and environmentally unfriendly. Alternatives follow in next toot.

@cypnk

I want to live in a world where "what if the internet goes down" is like "what if the freeway is closed". We should still be able to network with our families, neighbors, and communities, and I think it's a mistake to depend on the Internet for those things.

Working on SSB has been really eye-opening to see how much we can do with software that's DIY / P2P / E2E / friend2friend, and I'm really optimistic that we can build and organize small friendly networks that never truly go down. ❤

Someone is trying to build a #language learning app like #duolingo, but it's free software. Maybe you want to help out?: github.com/kantord/LibreLingo librelingo.app/ #librelingo

@mhoye could use more detail on the tooling, as well as what actions a user who gets blocked can take to get unblocked.

From the post, this doesn't sound much different than the shared blacklists of email, which has loads of issues.

@Gina "what not to do" is still very valuable. Looking forward to whatever updates you can provide!

@Gina the abstract of the talk you were going to give had a massive number of interesting things you've tripped over in one way or another
