Suddenly, if you check timeline for the #google hashtag in #Mastodon, you get a massive flood of posts from Google. This is new, and it's revolting. Google invading the free fedi world is annoying, but hijacking their hashtag to bury negative publicity is a kind of censorship.

@resist1984 Hashtag culture will maybe adapt to this situation and nobody in the fediverse will hopefully search for Google hashtags anymore over time. I'd suggest to use and so on anyway. These hashtags will never been used by Google themselves.

@irkiosan the problem with #degoogle & #fuckgoogle is that they don't fit well into the flow of a msg unless you want to introduce a distraction to whatever the thesis is. So you have to stick them at the end, potetially blowing msg limits. And trailing tags don't get leading newline if you use #bitlbee. Msgs that use trailing tags also get less notice vs inline tags.

@resist1984 I see. That's the way it is, obviously. The big players won't let anyone play anywhere without control, disruption or manipulation. This is (on a more abstract level).
