As soon as someone finds out you're learning a second language why is it that they'll ask you to say something, like mate I could literally just make random noises and tell you what they mean because you wouldn't know what I'm saying anyway

As a Romanian I find Italian the most similar, and Spanish second most similar to Romanian. We learn those languages very fast, especially Italian, but looks like the opposite is not true. The Slavic influence on Romanian is mostly on the pronunciation and Italy is the only country I've been and I could get around easily without speaking the language.
