If you still have #Twitter, #Instagram etc…

Maybe consider jumping on to some famous people on those platforms and drop something like…?

We interrupt your normal programming for this important announcement…

We return you to your usual programming

Make #2021 the year of the #fediverse

@imattau
The reason people leave Facebook and Twitter is to escape censorship. Nobody wants to leave those platforms just to be called Nazis and facists by Mastodonians and get banned even quicker. They even call Pleroma Nazi software lmao.

@flav I prefer not to make generalisations about what may, or may not, motivate people...🙂

For example, my interest in #opensource and in #privacy ideals are _some_ of the reasons I'm here 👍
@flav Which behaviour are you referring too?

The Mastodon instance owner, or the content creator?

@imattau
The instance owner. Why would you ban me for not considering Trump a white supremacist?

@flav As an instance owner in the fediverse, you have the right to expel some from your instance for whatever reason you choose… the reasoning might be good or bad.

You could, for example, expel someone because they don’t like cats, or use to many dots at the end of sentences…. None of these seem like good reasons to me, but someone might hold those beliefs 🤔

If someone doesn’t like that, they’re free to go somewhere else, or create their own instance.

I think @derek recognises that in the video, and went on to create his own instance….

@imattau
That's what the Big Tech tirants also told us, if we don't like it we can go elsewhere, then when people finally did they completely took down their competition Parler, implying they're doing it for a greater good lol. Most people don't have the skills to setup their own instance, so why would anyone want to move from Facebook and Twitter to an even more authoritarian network?
@derek

@flav I’m not sure if the #fediverse, when viewed as the sum of its parts, could be authoritarian. Given it’s decentralized nature…

What it does provide is choice - e.g Which instance you choose to join, or even create your own..

As for creating your own instance, it can be down quite easily - whether it’s through something like masto.host (where they setup the instance for you), or running @yunohost on a PC/Rasberry Pi at home…

@imattau
The Fediverse is a predominantly left-wing network where most instance owners/admins will ban you if they don't like your political views. Mastodon was created by someone who advertised his platform as Twitter without Nazis, because in his view Twitter was full of Nazis. You have to realize that if you want mass adoption on the Fediverse you can't expect everyone to setup their own instances if they don't want to be censored.
@yunohost

@flav @flav I don’t believe I ever stated that I wanted mass adoption… I only advocate to people on the big tech social media networks to make them aware of the #fedivere’s existence… Again, it’s about choice..

There are plenty of instances within the federation that cover a wide variety of spectrums; whether it’s political, cultural, technological etc… 👍

@imattau
So all I wanted to say is the Fediverse is mostly a leftist echo chamber for left-wingers who supposedly hate the corporations but they support them when they silence people they don't agree with. Not an alternative.
