Are We That Helpless? | Tennessee Bible College https://www.tn-biblecollege.edu/08/are-we-that-helpless/
It is high time for people to take personal responsibility, to have some courage, and to stop acting like helpless children. This is not about being stubborn and proud. It is about using the mind God gave us. It is about having the strength to listen to the lessons of history and common sense. It is about trusting in God and His Word instead of being addicted to the news.
One of the best things I've read lately.
@nvk exactly. Even if they truly were safe and super effective I would never support forced vaccination.
Unrelated: any leads on jobs for SW dev'p't, specifically companies which respect religious liberty?
Me, six months ago: I don't know how long I can hold out. Believing the lies just seems easier.
My friend: Oh, you can do it!
Let's assume for the sake of argument that I'm mentally deficient (never mind that I do a good job at work), paranoid, #antivax etc. Does it make any sense to persecute me?
I approve of the way Drew DeVault characterizes the Apple CP scanner:
> Police to begin regular, warrant-free searches of homes for child abuse material

ClassicPress (democratically run fork of WordPress 4.9) shows a lot of promise. They have a LOT of documentation work to do.
I should join that project and work on the docs.
Here's a little thing that may not be obvious to many people....
When you install an open-source app from Google Play or the Apple app store, there is no guarantee that what you install actually matches the public code.
@fdroidorg are doing a great service. They independently build the public source code for apps from scratch, review for common issues, and publish their builds. Thanks to "reproducible builds" it's possible to verify they do not tamper with the code.
@aral, I don’t think the @fsf has ever issue any statement similar to JS is dangerous. I think its official stand is only against non-free software, which includes client-side code. GNU LibreJS is recommended by the foundation instead of disabling JS all together.

Mozilla is basically a not-for-profit/for-profit that protects/violates your privacy.
I don’t understand why some people are confused. It’s really quite simple.
How FDA approval works:
A panel of 11 experts votes 10 "not enough evidence to show the drug works" and 1 "not sure". FDA approves the drug. 1 panel member resigns.

Brought to you by the government regulators who gave emergency authorization (not approval) for a medical experiment that's killed 5000+ people in USA.
If you’re using F-Droid, you won’t need to root #Android 12 to get automatic updates for your apps. #google’s monopoly is finally loosening up.

I got a taste of the sheer volume of rubbish that makes up 80 or 90% of the fediverse on friday - lewds and worse down to stuff that is liable to get you arrested. I nearly quit, but I've simmered down a bit.
It made me realise that while i strongly like decentralisation of powers - nations not UN, states not federal ... I don't think I believe in "Freedom of Speech" as a virtue in it's own right. We earn the right to speak, nobody is born with it.
I hate what "Free Speech has been twisted into - once, it meant the right to maturely present a case and be heard, but now it means the right to publicly pursue all kinds of perverse and twisted things. To promote abuse of others, and speak about things that are shameful even to mention.
It made me realise how much rubbish @josias moderates too - mate, you're a champion and you are carrying a heavy responsibility in the work you do, creating a safe-harbour for the rest of us to hang out in. Thankyou for your perseverance and willingness to do what others won't. It makes this server the sanctuary it is, and I so, so appreciate it.
Despite threats and withdrawal of support from former and current corporate patrons, FSF has reaffirmed their commitment to keep RMS on the Board of Directors. I hate to admit I was dragging my feet on renewing my FSF membership to financially support their cause -- because of the anti-FSF FUD -- but this settles it for me. I'm donating later today after I'm done with work.

@everlastingrocks @rose_myrtle there are multiple issues with MMS support, one of the major ones being that MMS is geographically in another area as most developers are. I can't work on it because it just isn't a thing here.
The other issue is that the technical implementation of mms is kinda horrible. Some people have made implementations that work though and currently in the slow process of upstreaming it to the 10 projects in the tech stack to glue it all together
Happy to meet you wherever you are on your journey (software or spiritual)
