Meta tried to bypass the consent requirement for tracking and online advertisement by arguing that ads are a part of the "service" that it contractually owes the users. Here is our explanation of what happened 4,5 years ago:

@noybeu If they can actually do that. But apparently, Facebook does not really know where the data is actually stored and who has access to it.

@elshid I don't think that helps for Meta. The statement "Sorry judge, I don't know where I store it an who has access" is never accepted for the people who have to know that.
