5 December 1944 | A Gehölz-Abbruchkommando was formed at the Auschwitz II-Birkenau.
50 female prisoners worked near gas chamber and crematorium IV & V. They cleared and covered with turf the pits which had been created for burning corpses of people murdered in gas chambers.
It was part of the preparation of the SS to evacuate the camp & destroy the evidence of the crime.
