@MelissaBearTrix jewels in watches are anything but worthless. They are used as bearings*, they are critical for the smooth operation of a Swiss Watch.

*Other bearing materials are not as good, even if they are somtimes used in more cost optimised models.

@mcc I am back to using Linux after more than a decade. All Microsoft had to do was keep adding new hardware support, and address vulnerability. But that doesn't align with the infinite growth mindset of tech investors.

@Lana Trump wants to destroy the value of the dollar by destroying trust in the US government, to reduce trading barriers with foreign countries.

His plan is working. Unfortunately the US is a high income country whose industry needs input. A stable currency to allow long term planning is everything in a high income country.

He is ruling as a tinpot dictator of a low income country.

@GossiTheDog I am surprised it isn't dropping faster. I am guessing business travel is still going strong. What I have heard eighty procent is reconsidering their travel plans to the US, I belive most are talking leisure travel. It is impossible to tell as their exist no visa requirements.

When I am thinking about posting something that need a content warning for "Racist Joke", I reconsider.

What stuck out to me about the Cybertruck towing "test" was the secondary attachment points breaking off with the hitch*.

The implication being if the hitch does break off, it exist nothing holding the trailer to the truck. This is extra bad as I learnt to attach the trailers e-brake to the secondary attachment, to make sure the e-brake engages after an accident.

@karolherbst That is Trumps stated goal, or at least one of them. He is achieving one very deliberate goal, the loss of trust in the US dollar leading to lower barriers to trade.

Reducing the face value of the currency to lower barriers to trade is a know strategy for low income countries. Doing it as a high income country, Doing it by throwing trust to the wind. Is where things get, for lack of a better word, "crazy".

The craziest thing about the tariffs, is that it destroys the trust in the dollar. The thing Trump is seemingly upset he is losing when Americans trade them for goods and services.

The dollar is worthless as a commodity, you can't eat it, live in it, neither is it an input in any industry. It's only value is its trade value.

The US was getting goods and value for an IOU with nothing backing it, other than the trust in the US government. The very trust Trump is destroying.

@rogeradolfsson how can he so obsessed with the past, and so uninformed? The first power plants was built at the point of use, like duh. The power generator was invented before transmission lines, as it turns out moving electricity long distances is really hard.

@JorisMeys The stock market will recover, eventually. The value of stocks is unfortunately more real then the value of money, on a long enough time line.
