@thebravelittleposter @Alice this is my favourite thing about outdoor cats. You no longer have one cat, you share every outdoor cat in the neighbourhood. I count that as an absolute win.

@ashleygjovik I particularly like the one about replacing all your light fittings, with low energy ones. Yeah, let's spend thousands of dollars on new lights. To save a couple hundred bucks this winter.

thinking about H5N1 mitigations

@pfriedma @hacks4pancakes why would the DOE need to know anything about transuranic elements?, it's not like they are building, or reprocessing nuclear weapons...

thinking about H5N1 mitigations

@azonenberg @hacks4pancakes Canada does at least in part share grids with the US.

@hacks4pancakes I remember someone answering the first one about the Swedish grid. The answer?, success is the worst outcome for those that try.

@halva yeah, I know what you are saying.

But Armenia was part of some kind of defence pact with Russia?, I fear that might be enough.

Export rules for dual use items are weird, you basically need an export license from the US DOD. And their rules are not always understandable. At least with framework they are a US company, it's even stranger when non US company needs to follow the same rules.

@IceWolf @halva I had a Lenovo thinkpad with Linux installed, that I bought from ebay. It worked great, unfortunately it died to bad solider balls.

@halva yeah it sucks, not really frameworks fault.

Reality is a lot of people, and companies, are getting caught in the current geo-political circumstances.

Honestly I wouldn't knowingly deal with anyone in Russia, due to the fear of what consequence I might face.

@halva yeah, I definitely took the throw money at problem solution. I did get away somewhat okay by buying b-stock. 1300$/€ for 64gb ram and 2tb storage is alright in my market.

@halva I just bought a framework, which reportedly have good Linux support. I can report back how successful I am at installing Linux.

Are they considered ultrabooks?

@futurebird @astory evolution occurs in two steps. Genetic drift, and natural selection. When the gen pool contacts it may center on the same position again, assuming a local maximum has been found. The gen pool will only centre around a new position if their exist a better fit for the environment.

Of course the world is more complicated then the models I base the above assertion on.

@halva it's bad enough I have considered buying a drawing tablet...

@futurebird I assumed it referred to species that was unusually closed to the common ancestor.

@SeaFury black or beach. Is usually what I pick.

There's a really concerning thing I've been seeing recently, that the escalation in transphobic and anti-disabled rhetoric on fedi is somehow justified because "everybody's stressed out about Trump".

This is bullshit, and if you see this bullshit you should call it out.

Being stressed out about the fascist president doesn't justify using the fascist president's rhetoric to punch down.

Attacking trans and disabled people supports Trump.

@elysia thank you. If you don't mind I would like to develop my social skills with you, you seem lovely.
