my Ubuntu laptop has this thing where if i double-finger drag left and right in the browser it does a history back/forward and i fucking hate it and i keep doing it by accident. i will NEVER want to do this. does anybody know if i can turn it off? i've checked in both browser and system settings but can't find anything.

@mrsbeanbag If you can't find a way to fiddle the trackpad driver, maybe there's a way to rebind history forward/back in the browser to something else? Assuming that the trackpad driver is just sending control-left/control-right or similar.

@semanticist no idea but there's nothing about it in trackpad settings

It should be called "gestures" in settings. From my experience using kde, Android, and Windows
