Under GDPR, anyone in the EU has the right to request surveillance footage of themselves. #Tesla takes records videos but seems to kind of throw their customers under the bus in terms of compliance with GDPR.

So how do we make this as big a problem as possible for Tesla and EU Tesla owners?

The article claims that it may actually be illegal to operate a Tesla in the EU because of the implicit GDPR violations.

"European Tesla owners should be aware of the associated risks before acquiring the car, as buying a product with illegal features presents a material deficit in the contract. The legality of using the car is in question, and this presents a problem for Tesla who may be withholding this information."

"Individuals filmed by domestic CCTV can request access to footage containing their data via Subject Access Requests (SARs). Controllers must provide footage within 30 days, explain processing purposes, and disclose data retention periods. Third-party identities in the footage must be obscured unless consent is obtained."

So basically every Tesla owner could be individually forced to reply to SAR under GDPR. I wonder if Tesla could be forced to provide the name and address of Tesla owners as joint data controllers or something annoying like that.

@Hex it was a huge scandal in Sweden when TransportStyrlsen (the ones that own the vehicle registration in Sweden) had partnered with a Russian owned company.

Apparently someone forgot that TransportStyrlsen registered all vehicles, including civil service, and military. Which has their registration withheld from the public, for national security reasons.
