Sony says the PS5 is in the latter half of its lifecycle

What? It feels like the PS5 just came out. Granted it was about four years ago, so it makes sense literally to say “latter half”; but it’s not exactly been a stellar, blockbuster period for the PS5?

A new console would offer so little for a lot of money – actually the present PS5 offers very little over the PS4 considering how many major games are cross-generation, despite it being four years into the console lifecycle.

(all this applies to the Xbox consoles as well, but Microsoft seems to have basically semi-abandoned the concept of an ‘Xbox’ for whatever the fuck they’re doing)

@yassie_j Sony has said they are going to focus on making it easier to make games. With the advantages of ray tracing it would make a ton of sense to release a console powerful enough to be ray tracing only, removing the need for pre-baked lighting freeing up a lot of development time.
