Some older, inactive Mastodon accounts are being turned into spam accounts.

Every account I've checked has been in the haveibeenpwned.com database, i.e. the spammers are using breaches from other websites and randomly trying e-mail/password combinations to get access to those accounts, insert spam links in the bio and start following people.

An exceptionally simple defence against this happening to you is using two-factor authentication. Check your account settings to see how to enable it.

Forbes’ Linux Laptop Buyer's Guide 2019 “If you want to embrace a company that is decidedly privacy-conscious and strictly embraces open source software, Purism's Librem 13 and Librem 15 laptops are worth considering. They feature hardware kill switches for webcam, Wireless and microphone.” forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelh

#GMail is harmful to e-mail ecosystem; its antispam blocking policy matches too many valid messages as spam.

It blocked LastPass email leak warning email, because it contained "a link" to a leaked site.

It blocked an e-mail from goverment agency addressed directly to me.

It discriminates all non-gmail servers, and it's pretty much impossible to own a private SMTP server these days, because GMail will classify everything as spam.

It's not how e-mail should work.

Consider dropping GMail.

Did you know that with a Librem One account you get end-to-end encrypted chat, VoIP, and video calling used by millions of people librem.one

You may think your Gmail account is private, but Google disagrees. Google told a judge that users have "no legitimate expectation of privacy." cnet.com/news/google-filing-sa Proton = privacy.

Putting out another call: I'm looking for #musicians using #Linux or #opensource software to create their tunes.

All genres welcome, as long as it's quality!

This is for my podcast Linux For Everyone. To be honest, this stuff is hard to find.

Help me find it!

Our goal with Tutanota is to offer the most secure email service. The built-in encryption is a good start, but as this post explains, there is more to secure email than just encryption: tutanota.com/blog/posts/secure

Looks like a few more slots were added to this wave of #PinebookPro preorders -- this isn't the next batch, just some devices that weren't claimed from the forum pre-orders. If you're quick, maybe you get lucky. ;)

So making small batches of Vinyl records (say 50 pcs) is really not viable. But with compact cassettes - I could pretty much manufacture them myself for as small amounts I want. I could rather cheaply buy cassette stock and print my own cover art. I got a nice tape deck that I could use to record the tapes myself with Linux :D Not sure how many of you would be willing to buy it though.

I am curious about analyzing notifications, especially concerning interactions around publications. So I am building this tool.

OK fedifriends, here's a fun issue that started today.

I have Nextcloud set to auto-upload my photos from my phone. This works great and has done for years.

So today, there's a "connection error" next to all the pending uploads. Not unprecedented, could be a server-side issue, expired cert, etc.

But - it only happens on wifi. If I turn off wifi and go to mobile data, everything's fine.

Will wait see how it goes on work's wifi tomorrow but would be interested in any theories in meantime.

Annoyed to have to manually authorize #PeerTube instances with #uMatrix, I just created a very small script automatically generating uMatricx rules for existing instances.
You can copy them in one click then add it in your custom rules list.

You can find it on #Gitlab: booteille.gitlab.io/peertubatr
