Total Mastodon noob question: is there any benefit or drawback to seeing on a certain instance? When I signed up I was here on layer8.space, but now I'm seeing linuxrocks.online -- that is way more my speed :D

@killyourfm The.nice thing about federated services like Mastodon is that you can follow people from multiple different instances. I tried to find more FOSS ones for discovery of people to follow, but most were full.
The particular one I am on currently doesn't show everyone on the instance.to each other, you kinda have to know who to look for. The plus side is a LOT less questionable content showing up in feeds without subscribing to it.
