Big tech/ethical/practical use question. Please boost for wider feedback.

While a bit crazy and feeling way early, for the sake of safety, we're looking at getting a phone for the kiddo for this coming school year.
Advice and thoughts, si vous plait:

I like my Android functionality but am striving to get away from using Google.

iPhones are user friendly but I'm not a fan of Apple.

And Pinephones, etc., still seem to need tech-savvy-ness and aren't always reliable.

What's your take?

@reay They sell phones with a de-Googled Android ROM called /e/ OS. It has its own app store, which has most of the apps you'll want from Play Store. They even have a partnership with Fairphone, if that's something you are interested in.
