'Messages that Stay with You'. Are WhatsApp messages really encrypted? True. WhatsApp does use one of the best end-to-end encryption protocols (Signal protocol). However, due to the way WhatsApp works, your messages may not be as private as you think. Firstly, we have the problem of metadata. WhatsApp can seemingly identify the types of files you send, how long you chat with someone and who you chat with.
Then, we also have the problem of unencrypted backups on Android and server-client encrypted backups on iOS (over which we have little control) which are 'promoted'. Although, local backups are available, this is not made clearly evident and the process is not very 'streamlined' (to say the least). These issues seem to undermine our privacy despite the strength of the Signal Protocol itself. Don't you think it's time to change? (https://www.thinkprivacy.io/choosing-the-right-messenger)
