They're appealing because they're cheap, but I don't know how easy it is to map that search key as something useful like escape, and I'd miss the meta key a whole lot.

Yeah, that's more odd than a Mac keyboard, sadly. I'd want that key to be Escape (#ThatVimLife), but that means meta would be on the top left. Ergh.
