Probably a dumb question, but did Sinema basically just avoid having to face a primary challenge in 2024? And if the Dems field a candidate besides her, won't she just split the Dem ticket and hand her senate seat to whoever the Republican candidate is?

@heidilifeldman @drustevenson It’s possible (in a rosy, optimistic view) that she so hated by Dems and Dem voters now that her running as an independent won’t split that side and might even split the Repub vote instead. But yes, it seems to me a worry in 2 years.

@krisnelson @drustevenson I just don’t know how many genuinely Dem Democrats there are in Arizona.

@heidilifeldman @krisnelson @drustevenson while independent voters are the largest block, most of them all lean one way or the other. Very few are "truly" independent few people are actually independents (usually somewhere around 9% according to some polls).

Let's put it this way. There were enough Democrats and Dem leaning votes to elect Mark Kelly in November who ran to the left of Sinema.
