In re: Mastodon, so far so good. More than enough activity to not feel like a ghost town, way fewer random nazis. I remain concerned that it can scale, both culturally and technically, but I'm crossing my fingers (and writing a little code, maybe).

@seldo I've found that seeing Mastodon as its own thing instead of trying to use it like Twitter helps a lot.

Found an instance with a cool local feed, and found enough cool people to follow here to make the Home feed really cool. I like that people are boosting a lot of nice people to follow

@fantinel trying to use a thing built and designed specifically to replace Twitter as "not Twitter" seems a strange decision, to me.

@seldo eh it replaces it on a superficial level as “a place to post short text” but I mean in not expecting Mastodon to feed all the content to me on its own, like Twitter and other apps do.

What initially stopped me from being active here is that my feed was empty and I was lazy to look up ways to find people to follow. Once I set my mind that using it required a little bit of effort it became interesting and quite fun!

@fantinel @seldo most people are seeking to replace their social graph on here not necessarily the "experience" of Twitter. And for a long time that just wasn't possible. Now most of my timeline (including you both) from Twitter is here.
