@craignewmark @wired The "culture shifts" is what concerns me the most. People leaving Twitter because of the culture issues there only to bring Twitter culture into Mastodon with them. Instead of being open to something new there are some that want to repeat the same mistakes of the past. Not all Twitter features need to be Mastodon features.

Hopefully federation and open source will give us the tools never had. For exemple, I’m seriously considering running my own tiny instance with family members and some friends. That way moderation and control stays the way I like it.

And if it all goes belly up, someone will fork it.
(Hopefully that won’t be necessary)
