@ink_slinger I will file this query along with mine for TVs that aren't "smart" surveillance devices as I am interested too
There's probably a Pi for that. Although I can see why a purpose built device would be easier to use.
@fssofdeath @msh I mean, it could literally be an off the shelf doorbell that just sends a signal the chime inside. But the generic ones from the hardware store suck and I've had too many instances of people standing at my door pressing the bell and not hearing anything inside (sometime dead batteries, but usually just pieces of junk that don't work properly). But a Pi type thing could be neat.
@ink_slinger @fssofdeath yeah it looks like either total garbage or tool of Big Brother are the most accessible options for wireless doorbell. May have to resort to maker skills to get a solid solution...
I just reread the original toot and I see now that a Pi would probably be overkill. Why the wireless requirement? Seems that an old school wired one could be a good and reliable starting point. You could then use the internals and make/print a sturdy enclosure.
I guess you could take a normal "cheap" wireless one and rebuild it with a better antenna and casing too
That makes sense, kind of a pain in the butt type of situation.
Did you find a suitable solution?
