The Fremantle Highway fire aftermath is such a fcking shitshow
What do you mean you can't sell these perfectly good working cars?? No I do not fucking care about your "brand reputation", you're mass-wasting perfectly good resources on the off chance it's going to have a fault even though everyone who looked at these says they're entirely fine and clean and were not affected by the fire.
They should sue BMW and alike for purposefully emitting thousands of tonnes CO2 for absolutely no reason
Rant
@anthropy I don't make a habit of defending car companies.
This isn't really a fight worth fighting, less then one procent of cars are lost in transportation.
Venting frustration is fine and good. But a lot of effort is put into making sure that the real culprits of waste is obfuscatade.
Cars is a massive waste, their exist no reason to be mad at some going to the grave early. The resources was already wasted when it was decided to make a car.
Rant
@ekg I understand your point of view but I disagree, this feels like saying "dumping steel slags in nature is fine because steel as a whole causes way more impact anyway", in relative numbers it may look small but the absolute impact is very real and entirely avoidable. If you don't trust them you can just take them apart and use the individual parts instead.
IMHO it's an indicator for a deep cultural issue, proven by the fact nobody cares about this at all.
Rant
@anthropy dumping steal slag in the forest wouldn't be a numbers game, as the impact would be clear and demonstrable.
The marginal carbon emissions of producing, and scraping a few hundred cars is meaning less in comparison.
Their exist well regulated process for scrapping cars with minimal environmental impact. If the cars would be scrapped at some later time they would kill, and maim people before then.
Rant
@ekg thank you. It's okay. I do understand your point of view honestly, but I do think indeed they'd be better sold off as scrap or for parts, IMHO every bit of waste we can avoid is a small win we need
Rant
I was a bit triggered, because I have seen so many people waste enormous amount of time arguing against things we can do literally nothing about.
Like windmill killing birds, or Russian gas keeping Europeans alive in the 2022/2023 winter.
Sorry, I failed to see that wasn't really what was going on here.
Forgive me for assuming, but I assume you read some article carelessly writing that BMW refused to sell their cars?, as they couldn't sell them as new.
Rant
@ekg No, I've followed the whole ordeal with the Fremantle Highway because it literally happened 5km from here, and right now I'm seeing reports and pictures of perfectly good cars where the car OEMs are throwing insane legal resources just to prevent recycling from happening, and that in itself makes me angry, because are we really fucking spending money and resources just to aggressively waste resources?

@anthropy
I think I went a bit off focus.
Yes, the cars should go to auction. Most totalled cars are sold at auction, their exist no reason these cars should be any different.
Sorry for going off topic.
