so, I’m a bit more neutral about AI than most people on fedi

but

have you noticed the way it’s being pushed is kind of reminiscent of multilevel marketing schemes?

i mean, i know some people have accidentally created cults by talking to an LLM, but like, i mean the people pushing it like they stand to gain a lot of money if you adopt it. somehow. despite the tech largely losing massive amounts of money constantly

@ekg @bri_seven i think its morso:

fear of being left behind
the idealization of new technology within techbro culture
the companies that stand to benefit from ai bill it as a revolution, like the home computer revolution or the internet revolution, so in all likelihood a lot of people have some harebrained scheme of riding that wave and DO believe they stand to financially benefit from ai. they could be the next steve jobs, after all

Blitzscaling(1) is definitely a factor, but it's hardly a religion. I would describe it as regulatory arbitrage(2).
