I've just realized why I think the framework 16 laptop is too gimmicky.

The reconfigurable top plate aside, which I think IS pretty cool, the massive expansion bay that seems to be made specifically for swappable GPUs I think is a huge gimmick that is not going to catch on for one simple reason:

External GPUs and Thunderbolt are already a thing. You can already give a laptop extra graphics power today, and upgrade that power later, if it has a thunderbolt port. Unless that's not how it works.

@dragonarchitect the problem is the lack of sensible external gpu options, what you'd like is a usb dock with a built in laptop style gpu. Unfortunately most egpu are big massive enclosure for desktop style gpus, that are as big as a mini pc or bigger.
