@ekg because it's just xenophobia. there's no actual reference to any regulation specified anywhere, therefore it's not a real requirement

linus downthread openly states that

Follow

@whitequark he did in fact confirm that it was sanction, and added he supported them not that is relevant. And even if Linus pushed for it, how's that Greg's problem?

@ekg because they're both responsible for this breach of trust

> he did in fact confirm that it was sanction

no he didn't. at no point did he refer to any specific regulation or act

@ekg "sanctions" aren't made out of vibes and feelings. they are made out of specific legal acts by specific entities with specific relationships to the linux foundation and its contributors

if you do not name these things you are talking out of your ass. if you listen to these people talking out of their ass you are a useful idiot

@whitequark

"If you haven't heard of Russian sanctions yet, you should try to read
the news some day. And by "news", I don't mean Russian
state-sponsored spam." - Torvalds

How do you interpret these words?

@ekg there is no reference to any specific regulation or act. therefore, these words are meaningless

@whitequark the threat of law is often more effective then law itself, their exist no certainty that the sanctions this is referring to will ever be written to law.

@ekg (but what's worse is that you're lapping it all up. grow a spine)

@whitequark I assume you lose every time you play spot the American, in Europe we take law seriously.

@ekg @whitequark which is why German exports to Kyrgyzstan are up 1000% since 2022?

@crzwdjk @whitequark how is that related? Sanction evasion is only one possible reason, and arguably not even the most likely. More importantly that traders in foreign country takes advantage of regulatory arbitrage is if anything prof that sanctions are effective.
