Well, my "new" home media #server is coming along fairly well.
I installed a pair of #Seagate Exos HDDs in a #ZFS mirror for mass storage, and created several shares for media, personal files, and #Proxmox images. It's nice to finally have a proper #NAS in the #homelab, plus #Jellyfin is working pretty well!
The next hurdle will be getting #Steamlink to work so I can stream my #steam library to my laptop and #Steamdeck.
Screen recording stressed the hardware a bit, but if I'm not recording, it works perfectly. All set in 30 minutes during lunch time :)
Mini-PC HW specs:
Celeron Dual Core N3060 1.6GHz
2GB 1600MHz DDR3L RAM
32GB eMMC
So hey this is a wild shot, but the fedi is full of people who are even weirder and nerdier than me, so...
Has anybody ever tried hacking a #joycon grip into a cable connector, wiimote+nunchuck style? I'm sure it can be done, but I don't have the #diy expertise to work it out :\
I really want to play my Steam games on the telly, but the #SteamLink app can't handle split L+R joycons the way that Steam itself can, and my sad old RSI arms can't handle non-split controllers :(
Boosts appreciated!
Keep your eyes peeled for the SteamOS stickers! Open-source NVIDIA drivers now support Vulkan 1.4, Alpakka releases a 1.0 reference design, Steam Link comes to the Raspberry Pi 5, and Proton for your vintage GPU.

While the original #steamlink still works, it's limited to 720p. Because of what I do I have a load of ARM based single board computers laying around all with fairly recent SoC's. I want to turn one of them u to a dedicated #steamlink device and I am wondering if anyone has made such an effort before. Could be #linux or #android based. I was thinking about building the android bsp with the steamlink app installed by default and set as launcher. Any ideas? #steam #gaming
so even though valve hasn't sold it in years, apparently the #steamlink hardware still gets updates. I plugged mine after probably 4years? it received an agonisingly slow update, failed and factory reset itself.
Now it works better than it ever has! recognises all my controllers. I might actually start using it regularly!
Ok now I’ve modded my #SteamLink with the MoonLight open source project moonlight-stream.org and I’m playing #BaldersGate3 on the big screen streaming from my PC in the other room, controlled with my Xbox Controller. Computers are just LEGO at this point -it all snaps together
Today I'm invited to a small gaming night. Lets see how #SteamLink and #VPN play together.
I fear a huge disappointment, but with a #SteamDeck and a range of adapters, cable and peripherals I think this gonna be fun locally as well
My local remote play issues are still not solved. #Steamlink / Steam Remote Play decides randomly (?) - sometimes in the middle of playing - to start capturing the audio device _webcamera_ instead of the actual speaker output device. And I have completely failed to figure out how to even affect this on a #Linux host.
#Sunshine / #Moonlight is also having audio issues - although here it's not the server part but the RPi client that's unable to play sound.
The kids use Steam Windows hosts and have absolutely no issues. This is a Linux failure :/
Ugh, I really love #Valve and the #SteamDeck but today was just one of these days... My #ArchLinux #PC just doesn't open the steam overlay anymore, which is really annoying when using a controller.
Then I tried to play some #Everspace 2 using Remote Play on the Steam Deck. It wouldn't let me set the 1280x800 resolution, and apparently the game crashes when opening the menu. Well, I tried to use the #SteamLink app which didn't crash but just went back to the main menu.
Alright, I thought, and went to install Everspace 2 locally on the Deck, which went quick because of the new local network transfer feature. While that was downloading, I saw that there is a software update. Hoping that things would improve, I applied it immediately. The system rebooted and it didn't resume the transfer... BECAUSE THE SD CARD WAS GONE.
It actually destroyed the filesystem on the SD card and I had to reformat. Not that big of a deal because I could hust redownload everything, but...
Jeez Valve... fix your stuff. They did some amazing stuff, but they really need to focus on bugfixes more.

I got #RetroDeck and #SteamLink running well. I am able to get OG xbox games up and running, but they are not really playable. PS2 and below run like a champ.
Well see how long this all last. My main TV does not play well with this set up. I think it is more of a TV issue than the Mac Mini
I recently set up #RetroPie, #Kodi (with the #Emby backend addon connected to my #Jellyfin server), and #SteamLink on a #RaspberryPi 3 B+ in a #NESPi Case+ with an #8BitDo #NES30 Bluetooth controller.
SteamLink is giving me some problems but it is a low priority because I just don't play "real" games much and my main PC running Steam isn't well spec'ed for gaming.
Kodi is also having trouble playing any streaming audio source.
Played around with #SteamLink on the weekend. Mostly to debug my VAAPI issue and testing what runs well. It’s still a pain in the neck and some games I can only get to stream with tweaks but after all I’m kinda impressed. Not that it makes sense do play most of my library on a mobile phone but what works here does also work on the 55" in the living room
