In April 2024, @citizenlab found vulnerabilities in the security of cloud-based #pinyin #keyboard apps from Baidu, iFlytek, OPPO, Samsung, Tencent, Vivo, Honor, and Xiaomi that could expose keystrokes entered by a user. A network eavesdropper can completely reveal keystrokes, putting more than a billion users at risk. #DefCon32

github.comWhy is #Pinyin so weird? Why did they pick letters that most European-language-speakers would not pronounce at all like their intended sound? Like, "zh" for ⟨ʈ͡ʂ⟩ or "q" for ⟨t͡ɕ⟩, c'mon, why those Roman letters?
I get you don't have the sounds in English or other European languages but why not just approximate with "ts" or "ch" or something?
