Fête Nationale https://robert.winter.ink/fete-nationale
Today, make an effort to talk to at least one new person to let them know why maintaining good #privacy practices is important for you.
Warmly invite them to alternatives to ad and algorithm heavy websites.
Be kind. Be gracious to their feedback. Their reluctance may run deep after years of corporate and algorithmic manipulation.
These small steps to create a community help us all be more private and informationally secure.
Last year, we created more than 50 millions tons of e-waste and recycled only a sixth of this. By 2030, this number is expected to grow to 74 million. This problem needs to be tackled at the source, by creating sustainable devices. Read more (in Dutch):

Het elektronische afval groeit steeds harder. Schadelijk voor het milieu, constateert een VN-rapport, en slecht voor de portemonnee. https://www.trouw.nl/wetenschap/de-wereldwijde-berg-aan-elektronisch-afval-groeit-zorgwekkend-hard~b41d41b9/
@tapaniraja I use Resilio Sync on the back end for the actual file sync, but then use 'FileRun' for a pretty interface up front. I fought with a NextCloud install on my VPS, and the issues it was having was not worth it for my use case.
Biweekly reminder to get your projects off #github and onto literally anything else. @codeberg , #gitea, #sourcehut, #Sorcia
Far from my best post but contains a list of alternatives: https://yarmo.eu/post/github-sinking
Thanks #github for sticking to the schedule of regular outages \o/

#Facebook flinched! My take on the impact of this week's #StopHateForProfit ad boycott and where the #fediverse might play a role.

The global spread of surveillance isn't just down to for-profit companies, but a maze of training, funding, and cooperation programmes led by powerful govts around the world.

@adalbertsen Aye, it's become a great platform with the powerful hardware available. My 7T just chews through some of the console quality graphics. I've done a lot of purging, but not complete. Right now I have 'Exos Heroes' on my phone, which has some annoying pay screens, but it looks amazing, and I'm genuinely liking the story its telling.

@adalbertsen Awesome find, I'm all for good RPG games like this that aim for no ads or microtransactions. Been purging a lot of games from my OnePlus in favour of paid up front games, ditching the freemiums.

Why Mastodon and the fediverse are “doomed to fail”:
https://write.as/eloquence/why-mastodon-and-the-fediverse-are-doomed-to-fail
How do we make ironic articles about the loss of privacy on websites that use spy trackers a thing of the past?
The duality of tech journals / online magazines / bloggers that advocate for #privacy yet are using #google #analytics, pervasive ad tracking (offline and online), etc. on their websites is an issue that may demand our attention.
What might help?
+ A code of conduct?
+ More vocal online protest?
+ Sharable “I won’t read your post because...” graphics?
Any ideas are welcome...
One thing I do notice, is that the community I have come across on here seems infinitely more informed and civil than the average person on Twitter. I left Twotter for a few months and just checked it out again.. Holy shit.. It's been more than two years since I left Facebook and I don't even want to know..
