Have you heard of Device Neutrality? The term is known mostly in academia but it is useful to every user.
https://fsfe.org/activities/deviceneutrality/index
#DeviceNeutrality means:
🖥️ Free choice of OS and software that run on our devices.
📡 Free choice to connect our devices with different service providers.
↔️ Interoperable and open standards-compliant devices.
🔍 Publication of the source code of drivers, tools, and interfaces under a free software license.
📂 Control over personal data in devices.
Software created using taxpayers’ money should be released as #FreeSoftware.
Our yearly report highlights good practices from public entities which already use Free Software: https://fsfe.org/news/2022/news-20220928-01.html#public-money-public-code #PublicCode

To remove these artificial software limitations and establish not only a true #RightToRepair but also putting back control of how long users can use their device, at the @fsfe we ultimately ask for the universal right to install any software on any device: https://fsfe.org/activities/upcyclingandroid/openletter.html
Sign the letter and help us fix #European #ecodesign!
The European Commission and the Council agreed on regulations for #ecodesign requirements for phones and tablets. And while there are some positive developments regarding spare parts, durability and update availability, #RightToRepair campaigners still are concerned that the final rules ** will not prevent manufacturers from using software practices to limit independent repair**, for example through part pairing: https://repair.eu/news/new-eu-rules-for-smartphones-and-tablets/
