For the new gabsters and gabsterettes who wonder why all the errors and glitches lately -

In early July #GabDevs forked (copied) a website called Mastodon's code, in order to get Gab's foot in the door of the Fediverse, so that Big Tech won't be able to take Gab down again like they did last November. In the fediverse, anyone with technical know how can create their own "instance" of Gab (or whatever) on the internet, by starting with Gab's open-source code.

Unfortunately, Mastodon's code was very cheesy, and a lot of it has needed to be torn out and re-written, plus Mastodon lacks a lot of the functionality Old Gab had.

#GabDevs have been pretty much working around the clock since the July 4 unveiling of Gab Social, forked from Mastodon, but they're a tiny team, and it's going to take a while to get Gab back to where Old Gab was. It's worth it, because it's critical that there be a bunch more open-source Gabs created via the Fediverse/Mastodon open source code. We're on the verge of literally losing free speech on the internet.

Much of Gab's functionality has returned, plus a ton of crappy code has been successfully replaced since July 4. But there are still many things to do.
