People, please don't use #SubStack

Please use #Ghost
ghost.org

You can let your site be hosted by Ghost or even better..

..self-host!

Setting up a site is super easy and you can even use membership features like I do here: stux.me/membership/

For every platform with a shady CEO there is a self-hosted alternative that is waaay better

#FOSS FTW!

Embargo’s up! I’ve been running the Framework Desktop as my main desktop for a few weeks now. I’ll share more specifics later but the gist is it’s an incredible machine, a lot smaller than I expected, and beautiful. Can’t wait to customize the front more when it’s released!

Saturday morning thoughts on LLMs:

- prose.winterschon.com/saturday

In other news, after an evaluation period, it seems that I can have a specific type of LinkedIN account without dealing with their privacy related nonsense from earlier this year (sending them my passport info will never happen). So the post is shared over there as well:

- linkedin.com/posts/activity-73

Unfortunately, it required creating a new account after >10 years of connections, so those are all gone. Yay for starting over in unnecessary ways!

Urgent help for OpenPrinting needed!

As many here know, I am co-founder and lead of OpenPrinting since 2001, known as the print guru for Linux and free software by many. I also got one of the 8 fellows of the Linux Foundation for this.

Up to now I was working at Canonical, hired back in 2006 just to run OpenPrinting and also to maintain printing-related Ubuntu packages.

If you're out and you'd rather stay out, we would absolutely recommend the easy-to-self-host @forgejo: forgejo.org

(We are a bit biased, though. 😄)

On this day, twenty-five years ago, libcurl was born. The engine from the #curl tool turned into a library so that others could also get internet powers.

The name "libcurl" was picked simply because we couldn't think of a better name and yeah, it is a "curl library"...

libcurl 7.1 was a dot-one release to make sure it would not get confused with one of the many 7.0 beta releases we did prior to the actual release.

One of the first adopters of libcurl was PHP.
