The @internetarchive today posted its 130-page "Vanishing Culture" report, which highlights the "fragility of our digital landscape" and the importance of "empowering public-serving libraries and archives."

I contributed a short article on my Kirschen research, which you can read on page 117. It's an honor to be included with folks like Jordan Mechner and Jason Scott.

Imagine wondering β€œWhen’s the next time that Christmas will be a Tuesday/Wednesday, for those sweet optimal public holidays (Jan 1st being exactly a week later)?”

Now imagine asking, idk, google or Siri or god forbid an actual calendar, instead of turning to the best tool for the job: systemd.

I didn't take enough photos of interesting things being presented today but Ubuntu phone and #UBports has a special place in my heart. I was involved in the phone project and, together with the canonical certification team, shipped a complex testing app on this platform. It is amazing to see it alive and kicking in 2024 at the #UbuntuSummit.
