About to attempt a battery replacement on an old Nexus 5x with a battery bulge. Wish me luck!
The Internet Archive is hiring a Director of Platform Engineering. In my opinion, this is the most crucial and important position we have had open at the company in some time. The right person in this position is not just helpful, but a make or break key between success and merely acceptable levels of technological advance for the archive. It's a non-profit level of pay but the work is world changing.
I can't believe how useful #interactive messing with SDFs is.
Several transformations chained? No problem, color the data according to whichever transform you want.
Need to see uniformity? Draw a grid.
I did like a hundred iterations within the hour!
Last time I used test-driven #development . Good for conformance, bad for spotting glaring bugs. Visual #debugging is powerful.
Universities are using a range of surveillance tools to track and potentially retaliate against student protesters. Activists need to take precautions and think through the changing risks on college campuses. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/06/surveillance-defense-campus-protests

This only took 2 hours, but I derived and debugged it.
My Equal Area Hemi-goofball #Projection .
I promise I'm going to make bad use of it.
// c = [r; φ]: [0;1], [0; τ]
// return [φ, η]: [0; τ/4], [0;τ]
// hemisphere only!
vec2 myEqualAreaCircleToSphere(vec2 c) {
if (c.x > 1.0) {1.0 / 0.0;}
float r = c.x * sqrt(2.);
float q = 1.0 - r * r * 0.5;
return vec2(asin(sqrt(1.0 - q*q)), c.y);
}
PS. Take breaks for thinking.
Got thoughts to come back to? Note them down using this Android app.
KDE Plasma is great. GNOME is awesome. Window managers are wonderful. Everything has quirks but I love all these options we have. I can't wait to see where we take them.

Sun printed the names of the design team on top of this TurboGX (cgsix) sbus graphics card. I'm so curious why some of the names are crossed out! Curtis, Chris M, or Bruce - are you on the fediverse?
Trying to map a surface onto a whole (hemi)sphere, covering it as uniformly as feasible.
(This is another crazy secret #SDF project.)
Lambert Equal Area projection only has 2 sources: #Wikipedia and #PROJ . The equation doesn't nearly cover the hemisphere :/
Just look at this junk!
I'll have to derive the correction factor myself...
