Hey! You! With the computing device!

Good job this week.

@vkc I am having flashbacks to installing 100+ NE2000 compatable ISA NICS on Windows 95 machines. They had a RJ45 and a BNC connector, we used the RJ45, and I took all the T connectors for the BNC attached them together in the worst, crokedest but chromeiest snake ever.

How many women are on Mastodon's team which builds moderation features?

Serious question. Boosts welcome.

By age 30, you should be able to use whatever text editor or operating system you want and not get upset about those flamewars.

[sighs, takes deep breath]

OK, on my recent critiques of Mastodon, lots of you are replying with "you're talking about *people* and not *the platform*".

As if the *platforms design* isn't influencing the way *people* can abuse us here.

This place is designed in a way that encourages abuse.

@vkc, You Need to mark it as "non-altered" or something similar because you will upload the newer versions, too.

@nielsk This would be expected based on how the New Outlook works. It's just the web version in a window. There are no PST files for local storage for IMAP or POP accounts; it is all stored on the web.

What is a common factor between the following lists?
* Traffic lights
* Parking meters
* Nuclear submarines
* Spacecrafts
* Smart appliances (refrigerators)
* Air traffic control systems
* Stock exchange
* Supercomputers
They all are powered by #Linux 🐧

Responding to my Linux posts with "Linux doesn't work because [insert your specific bug with it]" is just as caustic as the "You should use Linux because [insert reason]".

Linux and FOSS isn't the source of the caustic environment. It's the enthusiast-grade caffeine-addled malcontents on all sides that make discourse unbearable.

I will not be taking questions on this.

@jacqui An old guy perspective: When I was a kid, they had been phasing this out (the early 70s), but the golden arches on the older McDonald buildings still hanging around were actual arches, part of the building, nothing to do with the "M" for McDonalds.

Who thought this was a good move apart from OpenAI? πŸ˜‚ All this, because they didn't want to give humans money and keep everything to top 1%. #machinelearning #artificialintelligence #ChatGPT

@nixCraft I hope it evolves into the shape of a talking paperclip with big blinky eyes. "I see you are trying to write a script. Would you like some help?" ,

I saw a developer today.

No company swag hoodie.
No stickers on their laptop.
No mechanical keyboard.
No Windows or macOS.
No ChatGPT or Copilot.

He just sat there. He was typing code away in vim running on Arch Linux and an older ThinkPad, like a psychopath.

@vkc My memory is vague. Did Windows 95 (or other contemporary OS) have a downloads folder?
