Fizzy Water Fans: If, hypothetically, you owned a Carbonating Device from a Popular At-Home Fizzy Beverages Company that has, at times, been "somewhat to extremely problematic", I am here to tell you that this company in Wisconsin will refill your CO2 canisters by mail:

We have submitted the official Pixelfed app to the app stores! 🎉 #pixelfed #app

In the wake of the huge response to The Social Dilemma, I feel like the time has come to really push forward on Fyre Exyt, a project to create a detailed guide to escaping the datafarms.

I envisioned a page for each datafarm, to describe:

* what data users can export and how
* how to delete your account
* what liberating software / services could be the best replacement for various use cases of the datafarm

It's a big project. Anyone keen to help?

"Platform cooperatives are a tool for creating quality jobs on a large scale and they are already a reality! At a time when the concentration of big tech companies is through the roof, this course is not limited to generating an analysis and vigilance of capitalism. It prepares people for success as platform entrepreneurs in the exponentially growing ecosystem that is the gig economy."

We really need to come up with a less geeky word than "instance" to describe ... well ... instances. Also another word to describe accounts. On the Wikipedia page for the fediverse someone has tried out "identities", but it feels a bit clunky. I don't think it will take.

Classic... I got a Zoom advertising email, and when I click unsubscribe the linked page says the server is down 🤦🏽‍♂️

Here is an absolutely brilliant analysis by one of our members of the problem that ails technology in the 21st century. Absolutely recommended reading:

I hate to ask, but here goes.

I'm looking for a role as a #frontend #developer. #Contracts or #fulltime. Preferably #UK where I have previous #remote work ex from.

I've been looking a while and nothing with the right fit has come along. Work life balance is super important. If UK, happy to work completely in your timezone!

My site is rusingh.com and I'm happy to email you my CV/resume. Will start immediately once we're on the same page. 💯

#Boost please?

Did your employer participate in the boycott in July?

We raised awareness, but Zuck dismissed our demands. The protest must continue. Here is a template for raising the issue at your next all hands meeting.

If laziness was an Olympic discipline, I would probably come in fourth: can't be bothered climbing up that podium.

the-federation.info - a fediverse stats site - is looking for a new maintainer. In the Feneas matrix room today, the current maintainer @jaywink said:

"it's Python (Django) on the backend and JavaScript (VueJS) on the frontend 👍️ pull requests and ideally code maintainers welcome! 💚 ... #thefederation:feneas.org is the [matrix chat] room"

Remember when #DeleteFacebook was trending? Now is the time to finally do it! 💪😎 businessinsider.com/facebook-e
Here are our recommended alternatives to leave Facebook and Google; Mastodon included of course. 😉 tutanota.com/blog/posts/how-to

I just launched a new list for the #delightful project:

*delightful sustainable business*

A curated list of sustainable business resources and exemplars of online businesses

codeberg.org/teaserbot-labs/de

Still fairly empty, the focus is on companies based on #FOSS projects, or providing SaaS-based or other online services

AND.. there will be exemplars of said businesses 😃

So if you think your company should be added, pls file an issue to the tracker. Any contrib welcome!

Boosts welcome too :)

#ShowerThoughts: Free code development allows for cooperative competition, in ways that are not possible with proprietary software. For example, devs from all the free code chat apps could pick one competitor per year, audit their apps for trackers and other user-disrespecting anti-features, and publish a report with links to where they are in the source code .

I've spent more than 20 years as an anti-capitalist organizer. I've seen so many innovative non-capitalist projects fail because they can't sustain themselves on volunteer labour and donations. Cooperatives, social enterprises, and B Corps offer a third alternative to a) struggling along in the margins, or b) selling out to for-profit capitalists.

@charlag @darius @cj The car key metaphor is usually the introductory metaphor used, yes. librelounge.org/episodes/episo probably is the easiest starting place, habitatchronicles.com/2017/05/ is the next best one, and if you can read scheme and are ok with something a bit more academic, mumble.net/~jar/pubs/secureos/ is my favorite paper of all time and shows how "it's just normal programming flow"
