I also should have mentioned that I actually critiqued Barbie so hard that I ended up consulting for Mattel. https://medium.com/csforall-stories/tech-barbies-backstory-how-she-went-from-math-is-hard-to-robotics-engineer-63d22437df5d
"The first thing auth govts do.. is shut down the archives, censor..and produce propaganda glorifying a mythical past.. We call on all TSHA members to resist the current effort.. to politicize it, to remake it into a heritage grp or, worse, a propaganda organ"- past Texas State Historical Assoc presidents.
Once again, Teen Vogue is doing a better job covering politics than most other mainstream publications:
Everyone: Let's use this worldwide communication network to download all the movies and TV show we could ever want.
Hollywood Execs: But that would be piracy!
Everyone: So what?
Hollywood: If you pirate these movies, the people that make them won't get paid for doing so.
Everyone: So if we get the movies through you, they will get paid?
Hollywood:
Hollywood: I never said that.
This is true more broadly: to the extent possible, limit the data your server collects and stores, and only store data for as long as it is necessary.

This is a masterclass on how not to change a company name.
Anyone else would not change the name to a trademark their competitor owns, the logo to a symbol they cannot own and then try to take down the sign at headquarters only to have the cops shut that down because they had no permit. 🤦♂️
A trifecta of oopsie daisies. Should we let them release robot cars onto the roads?
Do y’all remember Computer Engineer Barbie, the world’s worst computer engineer? Starring in the world’s most sexist children’s book? With all the discussion about Barbie, I realized it’s been almost a decade since that controversy blew up and I went viral for this feminist remix. (“Now with less sexism!”) https://caseyfiesler.com/2014/11/18/barbie-remixed-i-really-can-be-a-computer-engineer/
“I would have had to give birth to an identical version of my daughter without a skull and without a brain and hold her until she died,” said Ashley Brandt, had she not traveled out of state for an abortion.
Brandt was pregnant with twins, but one had a fatal condition—the longer she carried it in utero, the riskier it was to the survival of the other twin.
Texas has outlawed all abortions, except to save a pregnant woman’s life. MDs can https://tinyurl.com/43dw5t83. 1/2
I remember when I first learned about how much 'hacking' is some combination of 1) social engineering, 2) rubber hose decryption, and I've categorized fictional super-elite hackers in the same fond but unrealistic place as 'head injuries cause unconsciousness but no permanent brain damage' ever since. https://hachyderm.io/@molly0xfff/110736619238165286

Inspired by a thread over on Cohost (https://cohost.org/cgranade/post/2030843-in-an-ideal-world-n), I think I finally hit on why so much of "X is hard" discourse about various open source or open protocol X gets me down.
The internet was always complicated and not terribly usable outside of a small niche. Instead of building abstractions, though, we built middlemen.
No one knows what an e-mail address means, they look someone up on Facebook. No one knows what a file is, they know pics show up in Google Photos.
I write things. Mostly words.
