I don't play RPGs enough to get entirely personally wrapped up in this, but I know a whole lot of people who do, and it's been stunning to see just how quickly Wizards of the Coast blew off their own feet here. No one trusts them to do the right thing, nor should they. This is a classic "we're sorry we got caught" situation, and everyone one in that space knows it.

Since I just saw yet another developer use '1.2.3.4' in an example configuration, a reminder that you MUST NOT use publicly routable addresses that you do not control in your code.
Instead, use one of the available 'TEST-NET' IPv4 or IPv6 ranges documented in RFC 6890, such as;
192.0.2.0/24
198.51.100.0/24
203.0.113.0/24
❌ 1.2.3.4
✅ 192.0.2.4
Pass it on to all of your fellow developers, documentation writers, and so forth.
Full RFC is here;
The Dept of the Interior announced it's given new names to 5 places that previously included racist term for a Native American woman.
The renamed sites are in California, North Dakota, Tennessee & Texas, completing a yearlong process to remove historically offensive word "squaw" from geographic names across U.S.
“Words matter, particularly in our work to ensure our nation's public lands & waters are accessible, welcoming to people of all backgrounds, the word is harmful.”
―Deb Haaland
When I was a teenager I knew that I wasn't a lesbian. But it wasn't as simple as calling myself bisexual, either. and I didn't have to think about it too hard, because there was queer, right there, an umbrella term big enough to cover all of us, an invitation to solidarity and inclusion. it was easy. it didn't leave anyone out. it was quick and efficient. you could say it like a flung rock. you could sing it like an aria. it had defiance built in.
Periodic reminder that "queer is a slur" is TERF discourse, and the project of reclaiming the word "queer" was active back in the 1980s and 1990s, when I was a baby queer.
I submit as exhibit A this 1993 WIRED article mentioning Digital Queers:
I was just fired. If you know someone hiring staff level software engineers, preferably in a #sre, #devops, or #PlatformEngineering space, I'd love to talk.

Now's a really really good time to support trans creators --- not as an alternative to TERF fantasies or as a way to fight back against institutional transphobia, but just because trans folks are creating some really cool stuff and trans imaginations are the best. #xp
