Hi all, Geary is looking for a co-maintainer!

@mjog doesn't have enough time to to do it all by themselves any more, and so is looking for a hand in taking care of day-to-day tasks such as bug triaging and fixing, and working on improving the front-end side of the app in particular.

If you're interested, take a look at the issue tracker, and pitch on in!

If you have any questions, please thread them below or get in touch with @mjog 👇

Cheers!

In case anyone wants to try out receiving MMS messages on their I just wrote down the steps needed for that here, still unofficial and hacky but it does work: source.puri.sm/Librem5/chatty/

I just learned VLC in Linux can stream videos to a Chromecast. One more task my Librem 5 can take over from my old Android phone.

JUST IN - Personal data (phone numbers and emails) of 500+ million #Facebook users has been posted online in a hacking forum.

>sooo happy I never had a fakebook account

So i made a matrix chat room for newb programmers like myself to ask questions and not feel like a complete moron of course also to talk about coding stuff in general. Feel free to join. :) #newbprogramming:matrix.org

Reminder to #LinuxPhone users: Be kind!

We don't want to bum or even burn out the people that do the hard development work, right?

Adventures with my pinephone.
The bad. I had one friend tell me yesterday that I sounded robotic on the phone. He is the first to say something like that, but it is something to pay attention to. Also, another friend texted me last night but I did not receive the texts until this morning.
The good. The I need a decent dual authentication app in order to leave my android at home. The only thing that I could find that works is a terminal one. Using @kyle's blog as a guide, I made one. Linux rules!

I posted a question on the mobian forum in matrix regarding the lack of data on my phone. Within a couple of minutes I got an answer that sent me off in the right direction. 4+ hours on the phone with AT&T later, I have internet on my phone.
Support from the open source community is a whole lot better than AT&T.

Right now, the biggest problem that I have (and the one thing that could keep me from using it as a daily driver) is that I don't have internet while on mobile.
Wireless access works great, but I need to have data when I am out.

Call quality seems pretty good. I've not talked to a lot of people yet, but everyone that I talked seemed to come through clearly. My sister did mention that there was a lot of feedback wehen I had her on speakerphone. Once I got her off speaker, she said everything was good.
One problem that I have noticed is that the calls app does not associate the numbers that I have called with the contacts. All I see is the numbers that I have called.
Texting does not have this issue.

I received my pinephone yesterday! I am that much closer to a google free life. I am attempting to use the pinephone as a daily driver.
I probably won't do daily, but I will attempt to update on my thoughts on the pinephone and the mobian OS that I am using.

And from the Vice article that broke the story: "Among the thousands of other data points, vehicle location data is transmitted on a constant and near real time basis while the vehicle is operating." vice.com/en/article/k7adn9/car

"Ulysses claims it can currently access more than 15 billion vehicle locations around the world every month, and it estimates that, by 2025, 100 percent of new cars will be connected and transmitting gigabytes of collectible data per hour." arstechnica.com/tech-policy/20

Are you an Android dev who cares about free speech and the Fediverse? Here’s how you can help:

Create an F-Droid build server and submission pipeline similar to fdroiddata.
Fork the F-Droid client app and call it something else. We need the ability to control the default repos, because we’re trying to make free speech software accessible to casual users. Installing F-Droid is difficult enough.
Support the development of @husky, a Pleroma client app.

Why go so far to fork F-Droid itself? Because the project is compromised by anti-free-speech activists:

F-Droid “statement” against free speech: https://f-droid.org/en/2019/07/16/statement.html
F-Droid banned Gab: https://reclaimthenet.org/f-droid-bans-gab-app
F-Droid banned Spinster: https://blog.alexgleason.me/fdroid-banned-spinster

We need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

There is currently no solution for a free speech app store, but we can change that.

@LinuxReviews@mstdn.io It's sad to see the beginning of the end for the Foundation. This happens whenever a group of enthusiasts shift their interest from their original goals towards politics.
