35 years ago this morning, at 8 o’clock, I went out to buy the day’s paper. I remember it pretty well! It was the day I transitioned, and the first time I’d gone out as *me* in the daytime. Less than 20 feet from the front door, two of my neighbours were having a catch-up.

I was greeted with a cheery “Good morning!” followed a heartbeat later with an equally cheery “What do we call you now?” as they looked me up and down. “Naomi”, I said, and told them what was happening.
