We have reached a new era of civil engineering; now we can build bridges by simply dumping truckloads of shit into the river until the shit mountains are tall enough that some people and maybe cars can cross the river. Truly, it is a revolutionary technology that democraticizes access to bridges; now everyone can dump a truckload of shit over small rivers here and there and cross the rivers instead of asking an engineer to build the bridge for them. This approach completely removes all the bottlenecks in engineering, too: no need to navigate difficult legal frameworks or ethical concerns. The biggest players on the market are staring to replace their bridges with shit mountains, you'd better be catching up and learning how to use this new groundbreaking technology. Some of you have ethical concerns, but this is beyond of the scope of my post. I also recognise that some might notice fish in the rivers dying, or simply slip on the shit; just you wait, I bet it'll be fixed in ~6 months

One of the (many) problems with AI: we are expecting a Majel Barett voiced conversational interface, Lt.Commander Data or an Emergency Medical Hologram.

But what we got was something akin to the yes-men that authoritarians surround themselves with. Which tells you all you need to know about the people creating AI systems.

I saw this on a Finnish post, so let me reformulate it a bit and post it in English.

Domain expert here: they aren't extremely effective for me in my field (programming) because to tell an LLM precisely enough what to do, I'd have to use a verbose English description, and I've already constructed the solution in my head in a more structural form that isn't words. Turning it back into words to tell an LLM what code to generate is a step backwards.

Es ist nicht so, dass alle Milliardäre in den Epstein Files vorkommen. Es gibt solche und solche Milliardäre. Einige kommen mehrmals vor während andere richtig oft vorkommen.

Dobrindt zahlt jetzt keine Integrationskurse (auch nicht für Ausländer, die schon eine Bewilligung haben, ihren Kurs aber noch nicht begannen). Dafür schimpft er in Zukunft auf die Ausländer, die sich nicht an unsere Geoflogenheiten anpassen. Was soll ich noch sagen: die CDU/CSU im Vollrausch.

Thought-provoking ideas in chapter 2 of @emilymbender and @alex's The AI Con:

No, this isn't NewPipe bad, they have a hard AI ban. It's seeing would-be contributors that was insightful.

As someone to whom "incurious" is one of the sickest burns imaginable, a tool that hands me code saying "it passes tests - don't worry about how it works" is about the least useful thing i can imagine.
